So God created…

“And evening passed and morning came, marking the fourth day.

Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.”  So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.” – Genesis 1:19-21

Question for the day:  How many of us experience the presence of God in nature?

I ask this question because, of all the thousands of ways that God communicates, this is the area in which I open myself up to Him the least.  I have heard so many wonderful stories from others about the magnificence of meeting God in nature.  I, however, can’t really say that.

But my God, in His gracious nature, blessed me this morning.  And since it is so out of the ordinary for me, I thought I would share it.

I awoke around 5:30 a.m. before sunrise.  The Spirit told me to go outside, so I picked up my Bible and prayer journal and headed to my back porch.  I sat there doing all my normal activities:  reading through scripture, writing in my journal – but I couldn’t stay focused.

Finally, I heard a voice saying, “Just be still.”

As I sat there listening to the birds singing, and watching the sun I rise – I had a sudden awareness that “God is here, in this place and it has nothing to do with me.”

There is a whole world out there that God created for His glory long before I was in existence.  And for me to sit and witness the wonders of creation is very much an act of prayer and worship.  I am a very small part of a very big story.  And how comforting that is.

I would love to hear how some of you experience His presence through the life of this marvelous world.  Please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section if you feel so led.

Heavenly Lord,

Praise be to You, the Creator of the universe.  How blessed I am by the beauty and order of this world You have created.  I can see Your divine fingerprints everywhere I look, if I only take the time.  Precious Lord, please teach me to see You in the fabric of life.  Give me an awareness of Your presence in all the elements.  Be glorified in my world today.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen

  1. I have many times been preoccupied by activities and daily problems that are stressful and rounded a corner, or stepped to a window to be dumbstruck by the amazing beauty of nature. I always take a moment to say “thank you” to God for His Magnificent vision and I know that it was just what I needed at that moment to let me know that the worries are minor and not be burdened by them.
